About
Dr. Salim Satir, P.Eng.
Born in the small town of Cayeli in the Rize province of Northern Turkey near the Black Sea, Salim was brought up in Istanbul, Turkey, which is one of the coolest and most fun cities in Europe. A natural athlete, Salim was involved in a number of sports that included wrestling, kung fu, soccer, basketball, and sprints. At age 17, he was determined to break the sprint record in Turkey. Although he was naturally strong, he knew that in order to be the best he had to get stronger, and the best way to do that was by weight training. He was frustrated when the competition was cancelled for that year, but that kept him closer to weightlifting.
The fact that he enjoyed doing weights, and was getting stronger every time he did them was of great motivation to him. His first passion was weight lifting rather than bodybuilding. Early twenties, he could do 6.5 plates on each side on bench press for 8 reps (about 630 pounds), and his plan was to break a record. However an unfortunate injury forced him to put off intense training for several years. Although the doctors told him that he should never lift weights again, he knew that the best way to heal his injury was training itself and thus never fully gave up on his training. It took him close to 5 years to heal completely but he was happy to be able to do what he really enjoyed.
Over the years, Salim’s passion for sculpting his body outweighed his passion for weight lifting. Competing at a junior level, he won the title of Mr. Turkey. He also placed 9th and 15th in the Junior World Bodybuilding Championships. Now a citizen of Canada, Salim’s foray into the Canadian bodybuilding scene landed him the title of Mr. New Brunswick in 2005, where he won the heavy weight and overall bodybuilding championship
